Orchard Nursery School is a warm and friendly establishment, located in a picturesque orchard on the edge of the Ketteringham Hall Estate. Our nursery provides a safe and caring environment for children aged 3 months to 5 years, with four different classes designed to enable children to play and learn in a stimulating and fun way.
Our Approach to Learning
At Orchard Nursery School, we believe that learning should be a fun and creative experience. Our dedicated team of experienced and qualified staff aim to provide a balance of imaginative and physical play with more specific skills required for preparation for school and beyond. We strive to create a relaxed and stimulating environment where children can explore, discover, and learn.
Outdoor Learning
Our nursery is set in a beautiful rural location, with easy access to large outdoor facilities including two large grassed areas, a playground, and large equipment. Children can engage in a range of outdoor activities, such as climbing, running, hunting for bugs, and exploring the sand pit. We also take class walks through the woods and around the grounds of Ketteringham Hall, allowing children to explore and appreciate the natural environment. Please ensure your child dresses appropriately for the weather, and do not forget to apply sun cream in the summer or provide warm clothing and accessories in the winter.
Parent Partnership
We believe that parent-nursery partnership is crucial for a child's development and progress. To keep parents informed about their child's experiences at nursery, we use an online educational system called Famly. This platform allows parents to track their child's learning journey, including photographs, videos, observations, and comments. This helps us to build a comprehensive understanding of a child's development and progress.
Settling in
We understand that starting nursery can be a daunting experience for both parents and children. To help with the transition, we offer two settling in sessions. The first session is with you and your child visiting the classroom, allowing you to meet the room leaders and practitioners. On the second visit, we recommend that you come alone, giving your child the opportunity to settle in without your presence. We also offer shorter sessions for babies in the Squirrel room to help them get used to being at nursery.
What to Bring on the First Day
To ensure your child's comfort and happiness on their first day, we recommend bringing something that will comfort them, such as their favourite toy. Please also pack at least a change of clothes, in case their clothes get messy or wet. It is also essential to supply a named cup for water and a named container for packed lunches. Do not forget to pack wellies in case of rain and a sun hat and sun cream in the summer.
