Taking the first step towards positive change

At Dover Counselling Centre, we are a charitable organisation providing confidential self-referral counselling services to individuals in need. We understand that life can be overwhelming, and that's why we're here to offer you support and a safe space to talk about your feelings without judgment.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a professional counselling service in a safe, peaceful, and calm environment. We believe that counselling should be available to anyone who wants or needs it, and we promote and embrace diversity, equality, and difference.

Our History

The Dover Counselling Centre was formed in 1988, taking over from the Herald Assistance Unit, a service set up by Kent County Council following the Herald of Free Enterprise Disaster in 1987. Since then, we have been providing a professional counselling service in a safe, peaceful, and calm environment. Our ethos is that counselling should be available to anyone who wants or needs it, and we promote and embrace diversity, equality, and difference.

Our Services

We offer a range of counselling services, including crisis management, employer services, and community services. Our crisis management service is designed to provide urgent support to individuals in crisis. Our employer services work in partnership with organisations across the UK to provide counselling, mental health awareness raising, and training to support the emotional health and wellbeing of their employees. Our community service is designed to meet the needs of adults with low-level emotional needs, and those who need longer-term support.

Our Approach

We believe that counselling is not about telling you what to do, but to encourage you to talk about what's been bothering you and to help you find ways of coping by enabling you to address your difficulties in a positive way to help you improve your quality of life. Our approach is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore your feelings and emotions, and to help you find ways to cope with your difficulties.

Why Choose Us?

We are a charity and company limited by guarantee, and we are an organisational member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). We adhere to the BACP ethical framework, ensuring that our services are of the highest standard. Our centre is open Monday to Thursday from 9am to 8.30 pm and Friday from 9am to 4.30pm. Contact us today to find out more about our services and how we can support you.
