Empowering You Towards a brighter Future

At Open Door Counselling, we are committed to providing a calm, confidential, and supportive environment for individuals of all ages to talk through their thoughts, feelings, and concerns. With over 50 years of experience, we have established ourselves as a leading provider of person-centred counselling services, offering a range of services that cater to the unique needs of our clients.

Our History

Founded in 1967, Open Door Counselling was established by a group of visionary counsellors and psychiatrists to serve the needs of vulnerable young people across Birmingham. Over the years, we have evolved to meet the changing needs of our community, expanding our services to include on-site counselling for schools and, more recently, adult counselling services to meet the growing demand for affordable talking therapies in the city.

Our Approach

At Open Door, we believe that everyone deserves a supportive and non-judgmental space to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Our person-centred approach to counselling focuses on creating a holistic understanding of each individual's needs, working with both their thoughts and feelings. Our trained and experienced counsellors use a non-directive and non-judgmental approach, allowing individuals to find their own answers and take control of their lives.

Our Credentials

Open Door Counselling is accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), ensuring that we maintain the highest standards of training, supervision, and client care. Our counsellors are recruited, selected, and trained by Open Door, and those working with young people are trained to at least Diploma level. They also receive regular clinical supervision and are managed by our experienced chief executive, a Senior BACP accredited counsellor and qualified counselling supervisor.

Reviews
Negative: The reviewers were highly dissatisfied with the service due to poor communication, unprofessional behavior, and inaccessibility issues.

Poor Service and Unfortunate Experience

Several reviewers have expressed their dissatisfaction with the service provided. Melissa B., Carly Jones, and Rapture all gave the service 1-star ratings. Melissa B. specifically mentioned that she left messages on the voicemail and received no response. She also felt that the counselor was unprofessional and lied to her daughter about appointments. Carly Jones expressed concerns about the service's organization and accessibility, stating that the short-term sessions were useless for her daughter. Rapture had an awful experience, receiving an appointment on non-headed paper with no contact details, and was left waiting for over an hour with no confirmation.

Inaccessibility Issues

Lynda Flannery gave the service 3 stars, but specifically mentioned that it was not suitable for people with disabilities. Unfortunately, the facility lacks a lift, disabled toilet, and parking spaces, making it difficult for individuals with mobility issues to access the service.
